Carnarvon Petroleum announced that the Quadrant Energy-operated Dorado-1 well offshore Western Australia has encountered more oil. The well on the WA-437-P permit recovered light oil from the Crespin Member containing 50 m gross hydrocarbons and with a net oil pay thickness of 22 m. Quality of the reservoir was above predrill estimates with average porosities of 14%. Analysis of pressure data confirmed that the Dorado structure contains oil columns in the Caley, Crespin, and Milne Members and a gas and condensate column in the Baxter Member, aggregating to total net hydrocarbon pay of 132 m. There was no sign of water in the Caley, Baxter, and Milne sands, although the lower section of the Crespin sand does contain an interpreted water contact.
