The Gazprom Management Committee and the governor of Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast recently discussed ongoing and future cooperation. Gazprom is shaping the Irkutsk gas-production center on the basis of the Kovyktinskoye field, continuing to prepare the field to move from development to full-scale production. In 2018, the company constructed four exploratory wells and performed 3D seismic surveys covering 2460 km2. In 2019, Gazprom intends to prepare sites for production wells and to begin drilling. Gas feed from Kovyktinskoye into the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is planned for late 2022. The parties also addressed issues related to gas infrastructure expansion and market development in Irkutsk. Gazprom and the Irkutsk government are bound by agreements on cooperation and wider use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel, as well as a gasification accord. Natural gas penetration in the Irkutsk Region is currently at 8.1%.
