Dennis Hahn, SPE, former chair of the SPE Canada Board, the SPE Calgary Section, and director of the SPE Canadian Educational Foundation, who was active with SPE at both the section and international levels, died 2 March in Bolivia, where he was teaching a completions course. Hahn, a completions manager at Repsol based in Calgary, was an expert in high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) completions including design, planning, and implementation.
A member of SPE since 1977, Hahn was a well-known mentor to young professionals in the companies where he worked and taught several courses in well completions, work-over design, and HP/HT completions. He was the author of 10 technical papers on completions design and was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 2003-04. He also served on numerous SPE committees, including the Distinguished Lecturer Committee, Membership Committee, and 2018 Well Integrity Workshop, was a technical editor for SPE journals and the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology, and was a PetroWiki moderator.
Hahn had been a completions manager for Repsol since 2015. Before that, he held management and senior advisor positions at Talisman Energy, Enerplus, Amoco, and several other companies. He received the 2010 Canada Region Regional Service Award and the 2010 Completions Optimization and Technology Award, as well as the 2018 Calgary Section Award as Outstanding Mentor and Role Model.
