Membership Demographics

This site provides a series of visualizations which allow you to explore how SPE's professional membership, regional and discipline demographics have changed over the last decade.

The graph below provides an example of one such visualization. It shows how the age of SPE's membership has changed over the years.

Below each graph are instructions for manipulating the visualization.

 ☰ Menu of Visualizations

Instructions:

To see an animation over time press the play button. The animation can be stopped at any time by pressing the stop button. Additionally, the graph for any particular year can be selected by clicking on the years below the graph.

Resizing:
The graph is designed to fill the entire width of your browser's window. It will resize when you expand or shrink your browser window. If you change the window size while the graph is animated, the blue, visible plot area will not change so you will need to resize the window again after the animation is finished.

Values:
You can find the values at any point on the graph by hovering your pointer over that location.

Tools:
There is a tools menu at the upper right of the graph which is visible when you move your cursor to that area. These tools allow you to capture an image of the graph, zoom (in, out, or continuously), pan, autoscale the axes for a single plot, reset the axes to the original values, turn on/off spike lines, turn on/off hover information and compare data on hover.
