AFGlobal Acquires Axon Pump Technology from Amkin
AFGlobal acquired the Axon pressure pump technology and product line from Amkin Technologies, a privately held oilfield equipment and technology developer. Until recently, Amkin was continuing the evolution of the product offering by supporting ongoing operations and engaged with AFGlobal to advance the construction of the pumps.
The acquisition of the Axon pump technologies and ability for AFGlobal to provide fluid and power ends in conjunction with the company’s pressure pumping systems will help clients realize improved cost, durability, and capability with ease of systems integration, the company said. These products are used across a broad spectrum of pumping technologies, including cementing, acidizing, coiled tubing support, and well servicing.
“Equipment reliability in this market is critical, and this acquisition provides us with a valuable adjacent technology to help us further enhance our offering to clients looking to build efficiencies and streamline their operational suppliers,” said Mark Terry, president of pressure pumping and compression for AFGlobal.
AFGlobal’s pressure pumping portfolio includes a range of pressure pumping equipment and technology, including customizable pumping solutions, blenders, hydration units and controls, and analytics. Most recently, the company launched its proprietary DuraStim pump system—a continuous duty positive displacement pump rated for 6,000 hp and prolonged use.
This acquisition follows the July purchase of Advanced Measurement Inc. (AMI), a provider of automation, controls, and data management systems based in Calgary.
Jeff Aitchison, president of AMI, said then, "AFGlobal is an ideal fit for AMI, and the opportunities afforded by the match-up are tremendous. We will be well positioned to expand beyond our current stronghold in pressure pumping controls into new markets, such as managed pressure drilling and compression."
In July 2016, AFGlobal acquired Managed Pressure Operations (MPO), a subsidiary of MHWirth. The resulting combination of companies created a complete deepwater managed pressure drilling offering with technology covering both onshore and offshore applications, the company said in a statement.
"Over the last several years, we've established ourselves as a premier provider of oil and gas products and services, including land-based pressure pumping equipment, deepwater riser gas handling systems, and subsea solutions. This acquisition will further support our strategy to create an increasingly differentiated business designed to support our clients' drilling, stimulation, and production needs both today and in the next phase of our industry's journey," Curtis Samford, president and CEO of AFGlobal, said.
