Variable Frequency Drive

GE’s Power Conversion business expanded its range of medium-voltage variable frequency drives (VFD) with the addition of its MV6 Series. This mid-range general purpose unit can be used in the power, mining, and oil and gas industries. VFDs regulate motor speed to control the flow and pressure of blowers or pumps without dampers or throttling valves. Because they manage power based on actual demand and use only the energy required by the driven equipment, VFDs save energy. In addition, they provide a soft start to the motors and reduce stress on a driven load. The air-cooled MV6 Series uses a simple insulated gate bipolar transistor power stack architecture to improve reliability and lower operating costs. The series extends coverage of markets currently served by the MV7000 and the soon-to-come MV4000.
