Wave Energy

Ocean Power Technologies introduced its PowerBuoy technology to the global oil and gas sector. Already demonstrated in the defense, renewables, and utilities sectors, the technology delivers energy ranging from a few to several hundred kilowatts and has been deployed in Hawaii, New Jersey, and United Kingdom. The buoy moves freely up and down with the rise and fall of waves. The resultant mechanical stroking is converted by a power take-off to drive an electrical generator. The power is transmitted to external equipment by an underwater power cable, or direct to a payload integrated into the buoy’s structure. The company envisions the technology for replacement of diesel energy generation on oil and gas platforms, control of electric trees for carbon dioxide/water injection, and temporary navigational markers for surface and submerged structures.
