Voith Turbo’s SelCon linear actuator is designed with a safety function for gas and steam turbine valve controls. Its hydraulic system is self-contained, and provides high force density and dynamics while requiring little hydraulic fluid. The actuator’s core components are a servo motor, an internal gear pump, a cylinder with an internal return spring, and a displacement transducer. It is controlled by a variable frequency drive with implemented application software controls. The estimated mean time between failures is 35 years. It is available as a trip actuator with no control function.
