Derrick O’Keeffe, SPE, was appointed head of division for safety and integrity at the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environment Management Authority (NOPSEMA), Australia’s independent regulator for offshore petroleum facilities and activities in Commonwealth waters. In this role, he will ensure regulatory requirements around the occupational health and safety of the offshore oil and gas workforce are met. O’Keeffe previously worked as country manager at Murphy Oil, chief operating officer at Strike Energy, and business manager at Woodside. He also has international experience, having worked in the UK, US, Asia, and the Middle East at companies such as Blade Petroleum, British Gas, Schlumberger, and Marathon Oil. Through his consultancy work, he recently provided his offshore oil and gas expertise to the National Energy Resources Australia, part of the Australian government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative. O’Keeffe holds a BS from Loughborough University of Technology and an MBA from Cranfield University, both in the UK.
