Angela Strank

BP appointed Angela Strank as chief scientist. She succeeds Ellen Williams, who was nominated as the director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy in the US Department of Energy. Strank is responsible for developing strategic options to ensure the company can benefit from developments in science and technology and will coordinate BP’s Technology Advisory Council, which advises the executive management on the status of science and technology within the company. She joined BP as a geologist in 1982 and has held technical and commercial leadership roles in the upstream and downstream businesses, working in the United Kingdom, United States, Africa, and Asia. Strank holds a PhD in geology from the University of Manchester and the Institute of Geological Sciences.
