Qiaotong Ren

Qiaotong Ren has been announced as the 2016 Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship recipient. Qiaotong was born in China, and lived there for 14 years before coming to the UK. She studied in the International School of Aberdeen before graduating with an International Baccalaureate diploma. For her BSc degree, she studied geology at Imperial College London and graduated with First Class Honours in June 2016. Qiaotong is now pursuing a Master’s in Petroleum Geoscience in Imperial College London.

Upon receiving the award Qiaotong said “I am very honoured to be the recipient of the 2016 Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship. This scholarship really means a lot to me, as not only does it provide support for my pursuit of a graduate education in Petroleum Geoscience, but it is also significant to me in that my efforts, achievements and enthusiasm are recognized and acknowledged by the SPE Scholarship Committee, which I cannot appreciate more.”

After graduating from a Master’s in Petroleum Geoscience in September 2017, Qiaotong wants to work as a graduate geologist in an Oil & Gas company, gaining new knowledge, skills and experience. Her goal is then to become a professional petroleum geoscientist and become a strong leader in the industry.
