09:00 - 10:30
SE01  Opening and Executive Plenary Session Ballroom B
Moderator(s) Bacho Pilong - PETRONAS
Speaker(s) Aravindh Kaniappan - Baker Hughes, a GE Company, Melanie Cook - ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc., Anuar Ismail - PETRONAS, Simon George Durkin - Shell, Azhar Abdullah - Schlumberger Malaysia, Keith Collins - Vestigo Petroleum
Enhancing production operations calls for an integrated approach across multidisciplinary teams that is beyond the traditional concept of collaboration but a collaboration with the intent to elevate the performance of the collective whole, the end-to-end value chain.

As the industry continues its strive towards operational excellence in the midst of soft but stabilising market sentiments and oncoming wave of digitisation, we will require more advanced technologies and a nimbler way of working to deliver improvements in productivity, efficiency and cost management across a value chain that includes production enhancement, flow assurance, logistics, asset monitoring and HSE.

This session will discuss current and emerging production best practices, technology and innovation trends, and evolving market demands and viewpoints. It will also examine how these factors will impact oilfield operations going forward such as:
1. Key production enhancing technologies and innovations to look out for
2. Increasing speed-to-market and pace in monetisation
3. Digitisation and automation of oilfield operations going forward

SE02  Panel Session 1: Synergy in Action: Industry Collaboration towards Sustainable Efficiency and Cost Optimisation Ballroom B
Moderator(s) Eddy Kamaruddin - BeicipTecsol
Speaker(s) Megat Zariman Abdul Rahim - Bumi Armada Bhd., Abdul Malek Ismail - ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc., Hajejah Ali - PETRONAS, Lau Hon Chung - National University of Singapore
Achieving cost reduction may only be a short term gain if it was solely a cost management exercise. To create a sustainable model of enhanced operations and cost optimisation, we need fundamental process changes that are built upon mutually beneficial partnerships between stakeholders.

While we can leverage on technology for new or improved ways of doing things, we need to also collaboratively implement and integrate technology with industry best practices.

This session will focus on strategies around industry collaboration to develop permanent production improvements with sustainable cost structure:
1. Leveraging industry-wide collaboration to drive production enhancement in oil and gas ecosystem
2. Long term vs. short term value creation
3. Cost optimisation across E&P value chain
4. Operator-supplier partnerships – improving information exchange
5. Emphasis on joint planning and accountability

SE03  Panel Session 2: Digital Transformation Journey: People, Technology, Strategy Ballroom B
Moderator(s) Eddy Kamaruddin - BeicipTecsol
Speaker(s) Lachlan Hope - Baker Hughes, a GE Company, Trygve Randen - Schlumberger, Arnold Volkenborn - Accenture Strategy Energy
Currently, most of the digital initiatives in oil and gas have been incremental rather than disruptive in nature. Although no stranger to data analytics, the industry has yet to reap the full rewards of digitisation by being able to derive actionable decisions and formulate plans based on data.

Digitisation opens up the gateway numerous possibilities in production and operations such as such as real-time data analysis, remote operations, and predictive maintenance and condition monitoring. In turn, this translates into enhanced operations and sizeable cost savings. Hence, it is essential that we strategically embrace digitisation in our operations to maximise its potential.

This session will focus on strategies around the workforce and technology implementation to boost the pace of digitisation:
1. Digitisation of oil and gas operations and implications on workforce competency
2. Entry of Millennials, touted as the most digitally connected generation, into the workforce and how this will accelerate the adoption of digital technology
3. Lesson from other industries in deploying digital technologies
4. Justifying ROI of aging assets vs. cost of digitisation

SE04  Panel Session 3: Technology Development and Deployment in Malaysia - Addressing the Challenges Faced by the Oil Industry, Now and in the Future Ballroom B
Moderator(s) Michael C. Poppelreiter - Shell Prospectg/Devel. Peru
Speaker(s) Mohmmad Azmel Harun Rasheed - Malaysia Petroleum Resources, Nasir Darman - PETRONAS, Max Prins - Shell International, Mohd Shahir Liew - Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS
Current R&D efforts in the industry and academic world are significant but can be quite fragmentised. This can lead to suboptimal technological developments with a delayed deployment or in some case termination before pilot trials. This results in underutilization of the full (enabling) power that technology can play in the industry.

Collaboration through partnership between industry and universities can create the platform for a tailored technology development addressing the necessary challenges in the industry and with practical deployment opportunities. Hence, it is important that the strategy for R&D collaboration is developed to face the future.

This session will focus on strategies around technology development through collaboration and early deployment of technology to be ready for the future:
1. The industry challenges that the industry faces now and in the future
2. What kind of R&D could address these challenges?
3. Drive for collaboration, i.e. joining forces to combine the best of the R&D capabilities
4. Automation / robotics – linked to HSSE and field-of-the-future
5. Utilisation of contaminated gas by-products
