This advanced course is intended for artificial lift and production professionals currently working with or managing ESPs. The teardown (or dismantle) of the ESP is the final phase of an ESP’s operation, but one that can give the most information on how the ESP performed during its life. Additionally, and maybe more importantly, the teardown and subsequent analysis can tell you why it failed. This key step is not simply taking each component apart, the ESP must be disassembled in a particular order, carefully inspecting for specific failure modes at each step, and, that order may vary with conditions and circumstances.

In the last two decades, the world has witnessed how efficient data flow among devices connected to the internet and machines has transformed and enhanced human lives and fundamentally altered every industry in what is known as the 4th Industrial Revolution.

In the oil and gas industry, enormous volumes of data collected through sensors have brought new challenges and unexpected opportunities. Since more than 90% of producing oil wells around the world require some form of artificial lifting, the utilisation of artificial intelligence, industrial internet of things, real-time monitoring, big data analytics, and automation, will continue to play a major role in world’s oil supply. An abundance of digital data collected and reported through sensors in oil fields has not only brought new challenges but also unexpected opportunities as the world has seen in other sectors. Furthermore, in a market of unstable oil prices and increasing production costs, oil producers can no longer afford not to invest in the intelligent lift technology.

In this session, we explore how artificial intelligence in the 4th Industrial Revolution is impacting oilfields with a special focus on artificial lift applications.

In the last two decades, the world has witnessed how the super-efficient data flow, the exchange between devices connected to the internet and machines could potentially provide endless opportunities. Our industry is not an exception, such ability can bring more flexibility, precision, scalability, security, availability, and connectivity to the energy industry too. Once complexities and problems are identified, analysed, and understood, the challenges can be overcome with such ability. Imagine, for instance, a self-managed smart field production based on a real-time production data capture and prediction intertwined with a neural network model, a self-running directional drilling bit steering its way into the target reservoir based on real-time geologic and seismic data capture and analysis using the optimum path algorithm, a self-controlled stimulation treatment based on real-time damage analysis and permeability improvement of the formation. What sounds crazy today will soon become a reality and the opportunities will become simply endless.

In this session, we explore how upstream companies are embracing 4.0 through the utilization of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, Machine to Machine (M2M) technologies and automation into their projects to maximize efficiency and optimize production.

Every field operation’s ultimate goal is to achieve a "Zero Accident" target and to create a culture in field operations that follows procedures and removes any “corner cutting” mentality in its day-to-day operations. This is especially true in field operations that are related to artificial lift installations and pull out.

By identifying risks and employing a step-by-step process in a methodical approach, artificial lift field operations can be made more safe and reliable.  This panel has the intent to provide new ideas and methodologies in HSE in the hope that both operators and service providers can benefit from the implementation of these concepts and thus eliminate any potentially hazardous situations.

This panel discussion aims at providing the audience with practical HSE methods and concepts that can be applied to everyday artificial lift operations, and to create a "Zero Accident" culture within our operator and service provider communities.
