The opening panel session at LACPEC will focus on technologies and field operations that improve asset development in unconventional plays. A panel of experts from operators, service companies, and academia will discuss the evolution of best practices in different basins in North and Latin America and how the knowledge exchange unlocked resources that were previously uneconomic. The panelists will also share their experience and hurdles adopting tools and workflows for reservoir characterization, drilling, well stimulation, flow assurance, and production forecasting, aimed at improving efficiency in operations and increasing recovery factors from the reservoirs. Finally, they will describe the remaining challenges in the understanding of flow mechanism and regimes, phase behavior and modeling that have resulted in a trial and error of prediction tools. Consequently, it has become a challenge the optimization of well placement, well design, production and ultimate recovery forecasting.

SE05  Panel: Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) in Latin America: A Roadmap for a Successful Implementation Live Session
Moderator(s) Jose Luis Mogollon - Independent Consultant
Speaker(s) Eduardo Jose Manrique - Ecopetrol SA, Lirio Quintero - Baker Hughes, Ganesh C. Thakur - GeoPark
The panel session will bring experts together to discuss new ideas, trends, and experiences covering all phases of an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project: research, planning, field implementation, and surveillance. A good number of EOR projects and evaluations have been performed in Latin America, proving that EOR methods are gaining significant momentum globally. The session will offer new fundamental and practical insights into the EOR methods and provide first-hand experience from successful operators, service companies and academia. There is value to be unlocked in every aspect of an EOR project and the panel will try to describe the required steps for successful applications.
