Safety
While Los Angeles is generally a safe place, using caution will ensure your safety. Be careful at nighttime, especially if you are under the influence of alcohol. If you are in danger or see someone in danger near the USC campus (see the coverage area), call the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 213-740-4321 for the fastest response. Please save this number into your phone. For emergencies outside the coverage area, call 911. If you have questions regarding safety, call the non-emergency line at 213-740-6000 or visit dps.usc.edu.

- To use the Metro, get a tap card at a terminal, load it with money, and use. Many gates do not have turnstiles, but be aware that if you do not tap properly you may be liable to a hefty fine.
- Uber and Lyft are very affordable in LA. For maximum savings, use Lyft Shared or Uber Pool if you are traveling alone or with a partner.
