The Eagle Ford formation has delivered on its promise. Only a decade ago, a flurry of leasing activity, followed rapidly by multi-billion-dollar deals and an influx of drilling rigs, led to the creation of one of the largest oil fields in the world. Following in the footsteps of the Bakken play, the Eagle Ford dominated much of the conversation regarding unconventional resource plays and much of the rig count.

To say that the Eagle Ford has been at the center of a renaissance in US domestic oil production is not an understatement, nor hyperbole. However, the days of the Eagle Ford play topping the rig count charts are likely behind it. Today, the Permian has more than five times the rig activity, while the Eagle Ford looks ahead to what is next.

This Forum focused on learning from the past and opportunities for the future in the Eagle Ford. Recognizing there is plenty of room to improve both existing operations and future development decisions, we must prepare now for the next phase of Eagle Ford growth. The key challenges going forward are how to extract the massive amount of oil and gas remaining in this generous reservoir and how to innovate and optimize development decisions to be able to compete in a low-cost environment.
