Session 1: Learning from the Past
Session Chairpersons Yula Tang, Chevron; Marcel DeJong, Shell

This session will begin with grounding presentations in the areas of geology, production characteristics, development, and completions in the Delaware Basin.  The presentations will be followed by discussions about what went well and what didn't in the history of the Delaware basin development, covering aspects such as leasing and continuous drilling clause (CDC) challenges, surface facilities, changing development metrics, optimum resource development, and subsurface development.

Session 2: Proved Developed Producing - What Do We Do with the Developed Acreage?
Session Chairpersons Nathan McMahon, ConocoPhillips; Shunhua Liu, Oxy

The constant rollercoaster ride with an abundance of supply continually creates an ever-competitive environment for E&P companies. This session will focus on existing wells and facilities, beginning with a discussion around cooperation versus competition between operators.

With the significantly large number of producing wells continuing to grow each year, the next discussion will center around the future focus areas and challenges to delivering our expected ultimate recoveries.

Lastly, data acquisition and interpretation, and the current and future of subsurface in the Delaware Basin will be debated.  Topics could include

  • It is all in the data?
  • Can we leverage past learnings and learnings from other basins?
  • Where we can we obtain better or more accurate data?
  • Where do we regret not having data?
  • Where do we struggle most with decision-making that data would greatly reduce the uncertainty?
  • Which approaches may work the best?
  •  Where are we headed in the future?

Session 3: Future Wells - Proven Undeveloped Reserves
Session Chairpersons Marcel DeJong, Shell; Yula Tang, Chevron

As we turn our attention to remaining future inventory in less developed targets, this session will cover spacing, stacking/staggering, sequence/timing, and co-development through discussions on the following:

  • What key mistakes got impeded maximized resource recovery while providing acceptable incremental returns on?
  • What data should we gather to better quantify the optimum 3-D development configuration?
  • How can we quantify the uncertainty of the future wells?
  • What do we need to do to reduce uncertainty in the future?

The discussion will then move to parent-child mitigation.  Topics will include:

  • What data should we gather to better predict the relative performance of child wells in a variety of 4D spacing combinations?
  • What are general observations on parent affecting child?
  • What are general observations on children affecting parent?
  • How do we need to move parent-child mitigation forward in the future?

Session 4: The Future
Session Chairpersons Matt Maguire, Diamondback Energy; Nathan McMahon, ConocoPhillips

Our session on the future will begin with a discussion in the area of environmental, social, and governance (ESG).  Market focus on ESG is greater than ever before and changes in this space are progressing rapidly.  Companies that invest resources into ensuring operations align with values that are being favored in the marketplace and public. To do so effectively, operators must be in tune with the ever-changing regulatory environment and popular sentiment with respect to the oil and gas industry. Maintaining an effective balance of an active ESG effort and business demands is an ongoing challenge.

To complete this session and the forum, the final topic will be on the future of water from production, for completions, and disposal.
