Thank you for attending the SPE Workshop.
The SPE Geothermal Workshop: from heat exploration to production and everything in between!
In recent years, we have seen increasing pledges from industry and governments to reduce emissions. Geothermal heating, cooling and power generation share significant overlap with the petroleum industry and can provide low-carbon energy options, but geothermal has not grown in line with other renewables. Industry experts from both industries examined the geothermal value chain and how new technologies and processes may be used to scale-up geothermal implementation globally!
This workshop brought together subject matter experts from the geothermal and oil and gas industries, industry leaders, academia, policy makers, entrepreneurs and investors to examine the potential of geothermal energy in a lower-emission world and discuss the key technical and non-technical elements that are needed to expand scalability for low emission geo-energy direct-use and power.
To bring together professionals (i.e., engineers, scientists, academics and managers) and the financial community involved in geothermal research, technology development and application
Assess how to establish geothermal energy as an economically competitive contributor to energy supply; how to best address barriers, gaps and needs to increase and expand profitable geothermal energy extraction?
Inform the hydrocarbon community of the history, major challenges, main opportunities and activity areas of the geothermal industry – where and how can oil and gas contribute to the geothermal energy development and exploration?
To provide a global forum for the exchange of ideas on the exploration, development and use of geothermal resources for heating, cooling and power.
- Direct heating and cooling
- Enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and advanced geothermal systems (AGS), or closed-loop systems
- Conventional and new concepts
- Baseload, scalable, dispatchable energy production
- Exploration and resource characterization
