Since the pandemic, our industry has been evolving to survive in challenging times. Coupled with the urgency to transition into the era of new and renewable energy, we had to adapt at a rapid pace to continue to remain relevant and prolong our license to operate. Despite the challenges, we saw great opportunities arise – we increased our collaboration efforts, optimised and enhanced our ability to produce in a sustainable manner, and developed/deployed new methodologies, strategies, and technological innovations to increase our business agility.

This session aims to feature senior leaders for an in-depth discussions on the ways forward by addressing current business and technical challenges, the importance of continued partnership amongst industry players, and establish fresh perspectives on how we, as an industry, can sustain our business for a better future.

Prudent asset management practices and operating model philosophies are key to ensure that the value of assets are safeguarded and enhanced while the assets remain healthy throughout their lifecycle. Although the oil and gas industry has faced many challenges over the years, with proven practices, we have managed to overcome roadblocks by applying new technologies, the new ways of thinking, innovative solutions, and collaborative models. This has enabled us to into new resources where it was deemed impossible in the past, and it has continued to sustain production until this very day. At the same time, new obstacles will continue to arise especially for extremely matured assets, complex highly contaminated, deepwater assets, as well as small fields.

There is no doubt that the industry-wide collaboration, integration, synergy, end-to-end optimisation, agility in carbon management, and excellence in production and delivery are key in realising the maximum values from the assets. With the industry constantly evolving in this challenging time, we must take a deeper look at how our assets would perform better, where the future of asset management must support a more dynamic operating/customised model. Together, we can then collaboratively optimise our asset and pursue further into the shinier future of hydrocarbon production and delivery, while supporting the NZCE and sustainability agendas. Organisations must be prepared to disrupt current operating procedures, functions, and even strategies to come out with a more robust integrated asset management platforms and operating models that would take us forward in a more sustainable and efficient way.

For the longest time, our industry has gone through many ups and downs, and there is no better time than now to discuss about resource-sharing. Contract sharing has been around for some time, and through collaboration and combined efforts from operators, service companies and regulators, our industry can work together to ride out the storm.

This session will discuss current industry challenges in pursuing that extra barrel with ever-increasing cost, job complexity, and add-on of lower success rate. We will also discuss how collaborative efforts would translate into win-win actionable plans for various stakeholders. Not limited to that, senior leaders in this session will aim to deliberate the resource-sharing concept amongst industry players, and how these concepts could be the key enabler to unlock further potential in our resources. The panellists would be sharing examples and experiences on how these resource-sharing concepts can effectively contribute to monetising and enhancing our production.

Decarbonisation is a term many of us have not even heard of until a few years ago. Now, it is shaping the future of our industry and gaining traction across the globe. This new norm is driven by the need to manage, reduce and remove greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, whilst we capture, store and even utilise carbon dioxide (CO2) as the industry searches for ways to find and implement non-carbon fuels. Things are definitely changing. How will we be a part of this transition while we change our focus and take on new challenges and eventually, what solutions will we deliver?

We are on a journey where we have defined the destination (“net zero”) with some initial steps and an ever-crystalising picture of the road ahead. This is an enormous and necessary task within which each of us needs to actively participate in order to succeed. Industries must understand, quantify, and reduce their GHG emissions towards measurable targets such as “zero by 50” (zero net GHG by 2050) and “50 by 30” (50% reduction from 2018 GHG emission levels by 2030). Citizens must keep the focus on climate concerns and governments need to work with industry to enable progress on multiple fronts. It is an “all in” activity for the industry.

During this panel session, we will discuss the roles which government, the energy industry and consumers of energy must play to enable the safe arrival at “net zero”. Areas for discussion will include GHG emission reductions, the enabler of Operational Excellence, the different lens for project selection in a decarbonisation framework, carbon capture proposals, the required regulations and policies, barriers to performance, carbon reporting structure, and technology/strategy adoption for APAC vs other regions.
