Performing well intervention for production logging and data gathering in extended reach, complex trajectory wells, poses significant challenges to conventional technologies traditionally used. Well profiles with a measured to true vertical depth ratio exceeding 4.5:1 (MD/TVD) and horizontal intervals beyond 20,000 ft., demand the latest technology. High-resolution down-hole sensors, advanced robotic conveyance tools, and specialised deployment systems provide real-time fast and reliable data transmission to optimise each well intervention.

Accurate well performance evaluation is essential to long-term reservoir management in MRC type wells, where early detection of production uniformity provides vital data required to maximise recovery. Conformance diagnostics and remediation rely entirely on well intervention technologies for low-cost well remediation.

This session will discuss advances in both wireline and coiled tubing conveyed technologies engineered explicitly for extended-reach applications, providing relevant case histories that focus on the challenges and solutions developed to achieve operational objectives.

In the coming years, the Middle East region expects sustained growth in the number of extended-reach wells and uncemented completions, as operators are targeting maximum reservoir contact well designs as a key strategy for field development.

In support of this strategy, coiled tubing (CT) intervention is one of the preferred execution methods for transporting fluids to the target zones. Acidising and conformance control systems require accurate placement and benefit from deeper reach, smaller displacement volume, and reduced fluids contamination provided by coiled tubing execution. The inclusion of advanced chemistries, specialised downhole tools, real-time downhole data, and distributed temperature measurements has also enabled addressing challenges in complex wells that may not be intervened effectively through conventional methods.

This session will discuss recent case studies for stimulation and implementation of novel chemistry, where CT technology played a critical role in addressing intervention challenges, contributing to the development of advanced workflows.

Recent Improvements in the downhole measurement technology have increased the intervention efficiency by providing accurate information that enables real time and enhanced successful intervention operations.

Advances in downhole tools, computers, software, and data transmission have greatly increased the amount and quality of data provided. New instruments and tools being utilised to image the wellbore and measure the downhole conditions such as but not limited to bottom hole pressure, temperature, injection, and production flow rate.

Depth correlation is one of the main important application for the downhole measurements utilising coiled tubing and other intervention methods.

In drilling application, the history of oil well drilling includes several innovative techniques to infer the conditions down-hole and there impact on drilling performance.

This session will focus on how the continued development of Advanced Downhole Measurements conveyed with coiled tubing, wireline, slickline, or tractors, has demonstrated the capability to deliver successful operational outcomes.

The need for optimisation during well intervention becomes more and more prominent in a period of significant budget constraints. Downhole tools can play a vital role in providing enhanced efficiency associated with intervention activities and have demonstrated consistent improvement during the years in terms of multi-functional capabilities, extended operating envelopes, and ease of use. The current portfolio of tools now available from vendors allows a broader scope of intervention work and, ultimately, more efficient access to hydrocarbon reserves.

The aim of this session is to provide the audience with an overview of the latest technology developments that either extend the intervention envelope or provide significant commercial benefits for service companies and operators. The session will include a reference to case histories with demonstrated field implementation and quantifiable results.

Due to new methods, equipment, and technology, new jobs that were challenging to execute in the past, are executed on a daily basis for the environment. Due to the latest developments in equipment, challenges that operators and service companies needed to solve, have become part of standard operations. High H2S jobs and unconventional development have become areas of efficiency increase and constant improvement. Operational risks have reduced with new developments in the coiled tubing industry. This session will focus on the latest developments in technology, design, and equipment in the coiled tubing industry that allow operators to expand their capabilities in different well conditions, and perform safe and efficient operations.

How do you safely perform 40,000+ feet coiled tubing intervention within complex simultaneous operations involving highly concentrated well pads and topside production facilities? A common misconception is that wells in the Middle East are simple, as are the interventions performed on these wells. As we know, this could not be further from the truth. Across the Middle East and North Africa region, some of the world’s most challenging wells are being drilled, that bring with them extreme environments, operational hurdles, and logistical nightmares. The operators in this region continue to push the envelope of what can be done with current intervention techniques, and look towards novel solutions to tackle the problems that arise. In this session, we will learn first-hand from regional operators about the current well intervention challenges they face, with the aim of having success stories to report next year.
