Agenda
Tuesday, September 19
Due its costs, complexity and, mainly, execution happening only when production is ceased, P&A is a sensitive topic by nature for the operators. A good and well balanced P&A regulation is key to guarantee safety to the environment and reasonable costs for the operators. In this context, this session intends to discuss impacts of Brazilian P&A regulation in the eyes of its stakeholders in the current scenario, where there are more operators – independents included – operating in country.

P&A is certainly one of the well engineering specialties where experience is most needed. The search for safe and time-efficient abandonment involves sharing experiences and finding out new management & execution techniques. In this sense, this session intends to bring real cases to discussion of P&A from operators with experience in shallow and deepwater scenarios, as well as to present challenges and lessons learned from recent abandonment campaigns, always aiming to generate reflection and collaboration in order to make P&A in our country even more efficient.

Technologies could play a key role in P&A enabling or optimization. This was seen, for instance, in the early 2010´s, when the Perf-Wash-Cement technology had its first applications in cement remediation jobs, shaking the previously stablished practices and technologies. In the last few years several technologies had been improved and developed, aiming to tackle all sort of challenges related to P&A, including fishing operations, well integrity issues, new well barrier elements, and P&A across gauge cables and control lines.
This session intends to bring case studies where technologies had been field proven, demonstrating their contribution to enable or simplify well abandonment operations in shallow and deepwater wells.

This session aims to share with the P&A community the latest both Operators and Service Companies experiences about integrated contracts models (turnkey, lump sum etc.) applied in Brazil or worldwide. The expectation is to provide to the audience a better understanding regarding the challenges and main points to be successful on this kind of model and what would be the way to have an alignment of interests into these processes as maximum as possible.

Offshore wells in Brazil present special challenges for plug and abandonment. With a large number of wells located in environmentally sensitive areas, there is a need for shorter P&A interventions with minimal environmental disturbance, favoring through-tubing operations and lighter intervention vessels. Combined with degraded mechanical conditions, P&A campaigns require novel approaches to well access, cleanup, and barrier placement.
This session will bring upcoming technologies that could solve some of the most challenging well abandonment scenarios in offshore Brazil. We will also discuss the qualification testing required to assure operators and regulators that new technologies are safe and effective.
