Creeping formations are a key ingredient of long-term well integrity, either alone or in combination with cement: they eliminate, or at least reduce, methane emissions by clamping wells shut. Even better, they are free. How can we recognize and characterize creeping formations and how can we ensure our well design makes best use of them?
