King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals student chapter has been busy the past few months organizing a handful of events. A BBQ welcoming party was held in late October to introduce new students to SPE and the chapter. With 68 students in attendance, it was a fun and successful event.
KFUPM also organized a geological trip to study Dammam and Al Khod formations, an event that 19 students were able to attend, and a trip to the MEDT conference, where the theme this year was “Managing Limited Resources to Overcome Today’s Challenges”. It was an educational experience for everyone involved. Finally, three students and one faculty member of KFUPM traveled to present at the 2nd Saudi Arabia International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (SAOGE 2009). Dr. Kumar talked about student statistics, facilities, and the exchange program at KFUPM. Mohammed AlGazal talked about students’ impressions of the petroleum industry. After that, Aymen AlArfag and Essam AlGoumum talked about the possible career paths in the petroleum industry. In the end, students were given a tour of the exhibit and were able to meet participating companies. With 47 SPE member that participated in this event from the KFUPM chapter, it is considered one of the most attended events for the group.
