Horizontal shale well completions require large amounts of sand which present unique challenges to operators during all phases of completion and production.  Lessons learned from years of producing sand in conventional reservoirs can be applied to shale wells, and innovations in shale may offer new ideas for dealing with sand in mature conventional fields.

This workshop took a deep look at the challenges related to sand in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs from several different perspectives - including the reservoir, the wellbore, and the surface facilities.  A goal of the workshop was to bring together professionals from both areas to share experience and breed new ideas to solve the diverse challenges faced in all sand producing plays.

Operators, equipment suppliers, and service companies shared technologies, experiences, and lessons learned with sand management in conventional and unconventional resource production.
