Kouame Kouakou

Kouame Kouakou is a young Ivorian immigrant living in Cleveland, Ohio, since 2013. After a year of English as Second Language, he brilliantly completed challenging courses at Cuyahoga Community College that would apply for transfer admission to a petroleum engineering program. Moreover, Kouakou worked as part-time Math and Physic tutor and was the historian event coordinator of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter in his college. However, before immigrating to the U.S, Kouakou graduated from the Scientific High School and spent two at the major university of the Ivory Coast. In Fall of this year, he will be attending the University of Texas at Austin for a bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Kouakou has shown that he is genuinely delighted and honored to be the 2017-Gus Archie Scholarship recipient. “This financial award will not only lighten the financial burden of attending college but also will keep me on the right track of realization the desires that pushed me to immigrate alone in the U.S- becoming a petroleum engineer, help my family and other people chasing their dreams. In the future, I highly wish to contribute developing better technologies and processes to reduce the risks in unconventional oil resources production.”

The Gus Archie Scholarship is awarded each year to those entering their education in petroleum engineering. It is funded by the SPE Foundation and selected by SPE’s Scholarship Selection Committee.
