Carl Quist

Heriot Watt University UK

Carl Quist is 21 years old and from Accra, Ghana. He belongs to a family of 4, single handily raised by his mother. Carl holds a first class honours BSc certificate in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Ghana. His final year project was on “Investigating the Effects of Using Ester Oil on the Compressive Strength of Cement”. Carl is also an old student of Labone Senior High School in Accra. Carl gained admission into the Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh Campus to pursue MSc in Petroleum Engineering in September, 2016.

Having been a member of SPE since 2012 and a member of the society’s Petroquiz team that represented the University at various Petroquiz competitions during my undergraduate study, Carl is also now signing up to the SPE eMentoring program. In addition to this he is also applying for an internship and a year’s National Service at Ghana National Petroleum Corporation. By working with the Reservoir and Production Engineering Unit of the Engineering Division on reservoir surveillance and management of the offshore Jubilee field in Ghana this has really helped shape and direct his focus in the industry.

The Petroleum Industry in Ghana is a young one and Carl is looking forward to contributing my quota to its efficient development through knowledge acquisition and sharing.

Carl has said that “Getting this scholarship is a great honour and a challenge to me because not only does the awarding committee believe in me but more importantly I cannot afford to fail those who directly and or indirectly look up to me. My primary goal to contribute my quota towards the development of the petroleum industry through knowledge acquisition and sharing is resolutely on track. My resolve has been bolstered and I am hopeful to hold a PhD in Petroleum Engineering as an active and renowned researcher in the industry.”
