Soneye Temitope Damilotun

University of Ibadan, Nigeria

Soneye Temitope is first and foremost an African, then a Nigerian. He hails precisely from Ogere-Remo in Ogun State, Nigeria. He is the only male child in a family of five. He had his primary and secondary education at Mayflower School, Ikenne.

Right from secondary, Soneye had developed a natural aptitude for Mathematics and other analytical subjects. This fuelled his interest in Engineering (Specifically Petroleum) after having 9 distinctions in WASSCE.

Soneye received his Bachelor’s degree at the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria (Nigeria’s premier university). He graduated with a first class honors in Petroleum Engineering. During this time as well, he served SPE University of Ibadan Student Chapter in varying capabilities; ranging from Member, Electoral Committee to Goalkeeper, SPE-UI football team (won 3 gold medals), to the Program Chairperson, SPE-UI for the 2012/13 session. This resulted in the presentation of an Award of Service to him by the student body.

Currently, he is studying Petroleum Geoscience (MSc) at the Pan African University Life and Earth Science Institute (PAULESI), which is a continental initiative of the African Union Commission towards ensuring the proficiency of Sub Saharan Africa in Science and Technology, as this has been recognized as a propellant of the economy of nations.

Through the SPE fund and the PAULESI initiative, Soneye Temitope seeks to embark on cross cutting research abridging Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience, as an in-depth knowledge of these would aid better understanding of underground oil and gas accumulations. He seeks to add to the body of knowledge and progress made in these fields, in the aspects of basin analysis, carbon sequestration, petrophysical analysis and reservoir simulation.

Soneye Temitope seeks to become a Reserves Estimator in the future, and probably delve into Mergers and Acquisitions later on.
