Installation and Workover Control Systems (IWOCS)
This 1-day course provides participants with a background review of subsea production control systems and specific knowledge of Intervention Work-Over Control Systems (IWOCS) as they interact with subsea productions systems. This is followed by an interactive class discussion of operations scenarios, illustrating IWOCS usage and some situational challenges encountered during subsea hardware installation and well interventions.

Intermediate to Advanced

This course will give you a better understanding of how IWOCS differs from other control systems, how its tailored to hardware installation and well intervention work, and better understand the operating philosophies behind well control and well integrity.

Brian Skeels has 40 years of experience in the offshore petroleum industry, in hardware design, offshore operations planning and implementation, API standards work, and teaching.
He received his M.S. in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a BSME from Cornell University, holds a P.E license in the State of Texas, and elected to ASME Fellow in 2010. Skeels received the OTC Distinguished Achievement award and has served and chaired several SPE Forums on Subsea Production Systems in Europe, Brazil, and the U.S from 1992-2010. Currently he is a Technology Fellow at TechnipFMC serving in an advisory and special projects role in new technologies including: HPHT, ROV applications, subsea intervention systems, and automated systems.
In his career his project work established several water depth records and industry performance firsts globally in subsea completions and interventions. He continues to serve on API’s subcommittee 17 leadership team, serving as a chair to API Standard 17G, Specification 17D, and 17TR8; and task group member and contributing author to several other SC 17 standards. Skeels also is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston teaching Subsea Systems engineering courses. He holds several patents and has authored several dozen technical papers in various areas of offshore and subsea engineering.
