SPE’s Western North America and Rocky Mountain Regions Hold Joint Conference

The Western North America and Rocky Mountain SPE regions held their first joint conference, 15–18 April, in Denver, Colorado, at the Sheraton Downtown Denver Hotel. The gathering offered attendees a panel discussion featuring oil and gas commission chairs from five US states; networking events; an exhibition; and five short courses, both on conventional and on unconventional resources, taught by industry experts. The conference’s keynote speakers were Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Helge Hove-Haldorsen, incoming 2015 SPE president.

Discussion on “Regulatory Issues and Challenges in the Western United States: Meet the Regulators,” held 17 April 2014, included panelists, left to right, John Baza (director, Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining), Jason Marshall (chief deputy, California Department of Conservation), Mark Watson (interim supervisor, Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission), Matthew Lepore (director, Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission), and Catherine Foerster (chair, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission); moderated by Tom Walsh (SPE Board–Western North America regional director).
