Statoil discovered gas at the Mercury prospect in Barents Sea license PL614. The well was drilled to 1060 m total vertical depth subsea, at a water depth of 414 m, and encountered 10 m of gas-filled reservoir rocks in the Stø formation, in the Realgrunn subgroup. About 50 m of net reservoir rocks were encountered in the Snadd formation. The size of the discovery is estimated between 1 and 2 Bcm of recoverable gas. Statoil (60%) is the operator, with partner Idemitsu Petroleum (40%).
