Spirit Energy has made a small offshore oil discovery at exploration well 35/9-14 in license PL 682 on the Norwegian Shelf. The well encountered 66 ft of hydrocarbon-bearing, “poor quality” Oxfordian-age sandstone in the Heather formation, the company said. A down-dip sidetrack well, 35/9-14 A, also found 98 ft of sandstone with hydrocarbon shows, but the reservoir quality was “poor and below expectations,” according to the company. Extensive data and sampling have been acquired from both wells and evaluation is taking place. Spirit Energy is the operator, holding a 30% percent working interest in the license, with the other participants including Capricorn (30%), Wellesley Petroleum (20%), and Petoro (20%).
