Metallized Carbon (Metcar) offers custom carbon graphite bearings, specially designed for submersion in low-viscosity liquids. The company said the Metcar bearings are superior to plastic and metallic bearings and can run in applications ranging from -400˚F to 1,000˚F and can handle most common liquids such as water, gasoline, hot oil, solvents, strong chemicals, and liquefied gases. Carbon graphite is a self-polishing and dimensionally stable material. Shafts polished to a fine surface finish will polish the carbon graphite material to the same fine finish, so a thin hydrodynamic film is sufficient to provide lubrication. Available in more than 150 grades of proprietary carbon graphite material, the custom bearings are suitable for a range of applications, including pumps (i.e., water, fuel, chemical, and heat transfer), meters, mixers, and submerged conveyors. The company’s quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2008 standards and its measuring equipment is calibrated to NIST traceable standards.
