Sunday 30 Oct 2022 | Monday 31 Oct 2022| Tuesday 1 Nov 2022
Vision
Since its inception in 2005, the Young Members Activities series has grown rapidly in size, global representation and importance, offering a business platform for experts, researchers and leaders of the oil and gas industry to network, recruit and share technical and industrial information with high school and university students.
SPE continues to play an important role in spreading the word and educating students on the latest technologies and give extraordinary examples from major companies within the Oil & Gas industry.

What is the SPE ADIPEC University Programme?
This programme is for the benefit of the best undergraduate geosciences and engineering students from the Middle East and North Africa region. It is anticipated that some 50-80 students will be selected to attend and participate in the programme.
The purpose of the SPE ADIPEC University Programme is to give students clear insight into the industry that they are about to join; to allow them to return to their universities and colleges with a positive message for their fellow students; and to provide opportunities for students to form new friendships and to work together on joint activities. At the same time, the students will be interacting with a number of major industry employers through field trips as well as an onsite visit to ADIPEC.
Programme Overview
The 3-day programme will take place alongside ADIPEC, during which students will participate in an engaging programme led by professionals in the industry. Activities and sessions may include:
- Professional and technical skills sessions
- Networking with companies in the industry, young professionals and other students
- Team building, group work and presentations
- Field trips to local companies
- A visit to ADIPEC Exhibition
Selected students should be prepared to adhere to the SPE ADIPEC University Programme Code of Conduct at all times.
Below is an example of a typical 3-day Agenda. The 2022 agenda may differ.
Day 1 – Professional Development and Speaker Sessions
Students will participate in a variety of interactive sessions that have been tailored specifically for university programme attendees. These may include, team building, professional development training, speaker panels and more.
Day 2 – Field Trips and ADIPEC
Students will be invited to an exclusive industry-focused field trip as well as visit ADIPEC where they will have access to technical sessions and the exhibition.
Day 3 – Presentation Contest, Judging & Awards
Student teams will present the final team project to a panel of qualified judges from the industry. The top three teams will be awarded.
Student Team Nominations
University Faculty Advisors will nominate a team of students who should meet all of the below criteria. In general, the nominated students should be top-performing students – those who have shown excellence in leadership, participation in extracurricular activities as well as academic performance. Students in their senior years of study (3rd or final year) tend to benefit more from this type of programme as they are about to enter the professional world. Our aim is to host students who excel in a variety of areas, not solely based on academic grading.
Minimum criteria include:
- Current SPE student member
- Enrolled in an undergraduate programme focused on geosciences and engineering
- Attending a qualified institution and SPE Student Chapter from within the Middle East and North Africa Region. Please see here for a list of SPE Chapters
- Must not have participated in previous SPE University Programmes/Education Weeks
- A maximum of two (2) student team members can be from the current Student Chapter Officer Board
- Students should also be aware of current sanction laws which may not allow them to participate in this event. Details of current laws can be found here.
All Student Chapter Faculty Advisors will be contacted via email once nominations open. The final participating teams that will attend the SPE ADIPEC University Programme will be selected by the Committee based on their application form.
If you are a student that is interested in participating, please contact your Chapter Faculty Advisor and ask about the nomination process.
The Project Brief
A new project theme is chosen each year by the committee – it is often based upon the industry at the time. Students will use this theme as an umbrella for which they can develop their project/presentation. Selected teams will have approximately two to four weeks to work on their roject presentation prior to the University Programme – teams will also be paired with a Young Professional (YP) Mentor during this time to help provide guidance. After the event, participating students are encouraged to share their final presentations with their peers and faculty as well as share their experience and learnings from the ADIPEC Conference and the University Programme.
