Welcome from the Programme Chair

Dear Colleagues,

As Bob Dylan said, “The times they are a-changin”. How those words ring true today when we consider the energy transition and our industry's future. The E&P business is working to achieve NetZero, but this enormous challenge for our industry needs innovation and ingenuity to cut emissions and still supply the world with the resources and energy it needs. These are challenging, but also exciting times. 

So I’m pleased to announce that EUROPEC is becoming EuropEC – European Energy Conference. EuropEC will continue the interdisciplinary ethos of EUROPEC by showcasing the best subsurface geoscience and engineering innovation, now with a new focus on technologies that contribute to our NetZero future. We will continue the sharing of ideas in developing and operating reservoirs efficiently and safely, managing risks and uncertainties and keeping projects economic through topics such as energy efficient reservoir management and digitisation/AI. We will also represent the exciting work being carried out across companies and universities that look to our low carbon future, on topics such as CCS, CCUS, hydrogen storage and brine extraction. To this end we’ve added dedicated topic areas for capture and storage of fluids, extraction of heat and materials, sustainability in the energy industry and NetZero energy economics. 

I’m extremely excited to Co-Chair the first EuropEC conference in Madrid 2022 and along with the rest of the committee we look forward to welcoming you to join us to share your knowledge and insights. We invite you all, those who have always attended EUROPEC, and those who may never have come before, to submit your abstracts and share your research and innovations to help the industry discover its future.
