Terry Palisch
2024 SPE President

Terry Palisch is the vice president of technology and engineering at CARBO Ceramics in Richardson, Texas, and the 2024 SPE President. He began his career with ARCO in Alaska and Algeria, joining CARBO in 2004 where he currently leads the Research and Development team. Palisch has been an active SPE member for more than 40 years, serving in various roles, including past chairman of the SPE Dallas Section, past chair of the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) technical program and former SPE Completions Technical Director.

He is an SPE Distinguished Member and has received multiple SPE regional and international awards including Distinguished Service. He has co-authored more than 50 SPE technical papers and holds several patents.

Palisch holds a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from University of Missouri Rolla (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) where he was recently recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus.

Matt Kovich
Matt Kovich is the Senior Manager, Facilities, Construction, Infrastructure & Water for the Anadarko & Rockies Operating Area at Ovintiv. In his 18 years in the Energy Industry, he has held a variety of roles including Corporate and Regional Business Development, Corporate Hedging, Production, Reservoir and Facilities Engineering. Prior to coming to the industry, Matt worked as a Space Shuttle and International Space Station Mission Control Flight Controller at NASA Johnson Space Center.

Throughout his career, Matt has been a huge supporter of early career talent, recruiting and mentoring interns and New Grads as often as possible. He firmly believes that in today’s industry, the people are our competitive advantage relative to our peers. Matt holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas and an MBA from Rice University.

Leonardo Bush
Leonardo Bush earned his Bachelor of Physics with a minor in Mathematics and Computer Science from Texas A&M University. Leo is based out of Houston as a Continuous Improvement Specialist at BPX Energy, supporting both East Texas and Louisiana assets. Leo kicked off his career at BP in 2020, where he began as an upstream mechanical engineer intern for GOM subsea operation projects.

Currently, Leo is working on multiple multi-faceted improvement projects to drive defects out of the business and push towards safer business operations. This includes taking over the drone program and working to improve efficiency, data reliability, and leak detection across BPX. He is also responsible for the Solar Air Compressor project, which focuses on eliminating emissions and improving equipment reliability.

Ning Liu
Ning is the Petroleum Engineer sponsor, she facilitates career development of Petroleum Engineers in Chevron through job selection, competency growth, and talent management. Ning has a Ph.D in Petroleum Engineering, and is a mother of two children. She is a recipient of the SPE Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award Russia and Caspian Region in 2015, and the SPE International Young Member Outstanding Service Award in 2014.

Ning started in Chevron as a reservoir simulation engineer in the Energy Technology Company. She has held engineering and management positions in Nigeria, Angola, Kuwait, TCO, and multiple US locations in asset development and operations.

Taylor Butler
Taylor is an Operations Engineer at Sabine Oil & Gas based in Houston, TX primarily focused on the drilling and completion of unconventional wells in the East Texas region of the Haynesville and Cotton Valley formations. She began her career with Southwestern Energy as a Production Engineer covering Marcellus and Utica formations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia in 2019 after graduating with a Petroleum Engineering degree from Texas A&M University.

Taylor has been a SPE member since 2015 and was involved as a chair at the Texas A&M University SPE Student Chapter, including coordinating the chapter’s annual clay shoot in 2017 and 2018. She began volunteering with the SPE GCS Northside Study Group upon returning to Houston after graduation in 2019 and took over the Northside SG chair position in 2020. She has been serving as the SPE GCS Director-at-Large since 2022.

Madeline Kaune is a Facilities Engineer at Coterra where she manages produced water gathering and disposal systems in addition to the Midstream cathodic protection and integrity management programs. Prior to Coterra, she was an Operations Analyst at Vopak traveling to terminals across North and South America to identify and implement operational efficiencies. Earlier in her career, she held several project management roles in a variety of midstream and downstream applications. Madeline holds a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma where she proudly served as SPE president.

Susan Howes

C. Susan Howes, PE, PHR is President at Subsurface Consultants & Associates, LLC (SCA) where she is responsible for all facets of the company’s consulting, recruitment and training services business including maintaining the highest technical quality standards. 

Howes’ prior experience includes roles of increasing responsibility at Anadarko and Chevron in reservoir engineering, business development, corporate engineering, HR, organizational capability and reservoir management.  Howes is recognized an industry leader in petro-technical talent attraction, development and retention. She has coauthored papers and articles on the topics of ethics, uncertainty management, risk management, and talent management.

Howes holds a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas. She chairs the Program Committee for SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) 2024 and serves as past-chair of the SPE Management Technical Section.  Howes received the SPE DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal, is an Honorary Member of SPE, and served as a SPE Distinguished Lecturer for 2019-20. She serves on the Colorado School of Mines Petroleum Engineering Department Program Advisory Board, on the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council BOD and chairs the Society of Women Engineers – Houston Area Awards Committee. 

Howes received the 2020 Woman of Excellence award from the Federation of Houston Professional Women.

Jamie White
ExxonMobil

Jamie White is the Carbon Storage and Transport Manager in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company.

He began his career as a geologist with ExxonMobil in 1996 working producing oil and gas fields in the onshore of the Gulf Coast of the United States, and has since held a variety of technical and managerial positions that have allowed Jamie see all phases of the upstream oil and gas industry across the globe.  In addition to Houston, Jamie has had postings in Indonesia, Australia, and Canada.  Jamie has also worked in ExxonMobil’s exploration strategic planning organization.

Jamie received a Master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1995, and his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster in 1992.

Jamie assumed his current position in 2022.  In this capacity, he leads a global team to ensure safe and secure storage and transportation of CO2 in support of ExxonMobil’s Low Carbon Solutions business.

Sarath Ketineni

Sarath Ketineni currently works as a Project Manager for Subsurface and Wells Team at Chevron Technology Ventures. He began his career eight years ago with Chevron. In his current role, he scouts for external innovation and leads technology trials to transfer new technologies into Chevron. Prior to this role, he worked as reservoir simulation engineer at Chevron’s Energy Technology Company and Project Manager for Chevron’s gas EOR projects in Permian. He also serves as a technical editor for SPE journals, and Journal of petroleum Science and Engineering and Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering and held several key positions on SPE GCS committees over the years. He was awarded the SPE Houston young engineer of the year in 2022. Sarath holds a B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras and MS, PhD in petroleum Engineering from Penn State.

Abhishek Dongre

Abhishek has more than 10+ years of experience in the Energy industry. He has spent his career working in various roles, from Production/Fracturing operations to Onshore Facility design and Project Management. In recent years, Abhishek has shifted his focus to carbon management in the Energy industry.

As a CCUS Project Manager, Abhishek is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain of oil and gas operations. He has a deep understanding of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, and has successfully led several projects in this area.

Abhishek is also highly knowledgeable in the regulatory landscape surrounding carbon management in the Oil and Gas industry. He is well-versed in global carbon pricing mechanisms and carbon tax policies, as well as carbon trading and offsetting schemes.

Abhishek holds a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma and has also completed additional coursework in Data science and Project management. He is a member of SPE for the past 15+ yrs. and regularly attends conferences and events to stay up to date with the latest developments in carbon management.

Simeon Eburi

Simeon Eburi is currently serving as 2023 SPE North America Regional Director. He is a Reservoir Management Advisor in Chevron’s Technical Center. He has spent much of his professional life at Chevron in roles ranging from frontier exploration and new ventures petroleum engineer, production operations supervisor in Bakersfield, California, decision and economic analyst/advisor for deepwater US Gulf of Mexico Exploration, and reservoir simulation engineer, reservoir engineer and production engineer for Shale and Tight assets. He was the chair of the SPE Gulf Coast Section (GCS) Board of Directors in 2020 and received the SPE Gulf Coast North America Regional Young Member Outstanding Service Award in 2019. He also received the SPE-GCS Committee of the Year Award as Education Committee Chair in 2016 and was SPE-GCS Young Professionals Committee Chair in 2013, receiving the SPE Houston Young Engineer of the Year Award in 2014. Eburi holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in petroleum engineering from Texas Tech University.
