Idongesit Ansa

Idongesit Ansa is a graduate student in the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at West Virginia University, Morgantown, USA. She is a graduate research assistant in the Laboratory for Engineering Application (WVU-LEADS Lab). She has been involved in various research projects and industry-related activities, which have provided her with practical experience and insights in the field of oil and gas. In her research group, she is collaborating with NETL (National Energy Technology Laboratory) at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to build smart proxy models for both fluid flow and geomechanics targeted at accelerating commercial deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage. In tandem with the research projects deliverables, she ensures accuracy and efficiency, applying data analysis and AI algorithms to extrapolate properties and predict pressure and saturation of injected CO2 in the storage reservoir.

She co-authored a peer reviewed paper presented at the SPE Canadian Energy Technology Conference and has other publications with reputable journals. She currently serves as the Vice President of the American Association of Drilling Engineers, West Virginia University Student Chapter. She is also an Ambassador of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, WVU.

Idongesit obtained her bachelor’s degree at the prestigious University of Uyo, in the oil-rich state of Akwa Ibom, Southern Nigeria. As part of her education and training, she completed an internship with ExxonMobil, Nigeria. In this role she worked as a petroleum engineering intern engineer, where she collaborated with expert reservoir engineers to integrate various datasets for hydrocarbon prospects identification in one of the offshore Fields.

As part of her numerous volunteering, Idongesit is breaking the STEM stereotype by championing the cause for more female involvement in STEM. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), as well as, a STEM tutor, sensitizing and supporting young girls to take up career paths in STEM. In this role, she has volunteered for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Port Harcourt section in Nigeria.
