Opening Keynote Session: Creating a Sustainable Future – How Canadian Energy Companies are Leading a New Energy Mix Van Horne A
Moderator(s) Linda Blair, EVRAZ; Doug Hollies, Remedy Energy Services

Welcome remarks by Committe Chair

This year’s keynote presentations will provide insights into the future of In-situ Heavy Oil and how Canada’s Energy companies are shifting into a world that is looking for a different energy mix. In Alberta, we have created an entire industry that has brought technically challenging energy production systems, Cyclic Steam Stimulation and Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, from concept through commercialization to maturity, and we are ready to do it again.  What we have learned during this commercialization process that sustainability matters. We continue to advance technology to preserve our water, to clean our air, to protect our environment, and we have taken on the process of cleaning up old wells and their fugitive emissions. Our speakers will focus on the future of Alberta, of Canada to inspire us with new plans and a ‘new energy’ to move forward.

01  Casing Design and Evaluation Van Horne A
Session Chairpersons Nick Fournie - Cenovus Energy Inc, John V Krener - Chevron ETC

Thermal operations present unique challenges for tubular connection selection in order to provide reliability and integrity over the life cycle of the well.  Extreme temperature swings during thermal operations can generate and exert high stresses on tubing connections, which are typically the weakest point in the wellbore design.  This session will present ideas and concepts to consider for thermal well planning and design.  The presentations will include considerations for analytical qualifications for tubular connections and a study to support metal-to-metal seal evaluation criteria for tubular connections.  Please join the discussion to share ideas and experiences.
