Membership Demographics

The following visualizations let you explore how the length of membership of SPE professional membership has changed over the years.

On the first visualization, the bottom part of the plot contains a bar chart which shows the number of professional members by years of membership for a given year while the top part provides statistical information for that year in the form of a box plot which shows the minimum, maximum, median, first and third quartile.

The second graph shows the average number of years of membership by age. The trendline is estimated using ordinary least squares regression which isn't necessarily the best fit for the curve but makes it easy to see deviation from a linear growth of years of membership by age.

Instructions:

To see how this data changes over time press the play button. The animation can be stopped at any time by pressing the stop button. Additionally, the graph for any particular year can be selected by clicking on the years below the graph.

Resizing:
The graph is designed to fill the entire width of your browser's window. It will resize when you expand or shrink your browser window. If you change the window size while the graph is animated, the blue, visible plot area will not change so you will need to resize the window again after the animation is finished.

Values:
You can find the values at any point on the graph by hovering your pointer over that location.

Tools:
There is a tools menu at the upper right of the graph which is visible when you move your cursor to that area. With these you can capture an image of the graph, zoom (in, out, or continuously), pan, autoscale the axes for a single plot, reset the axes to the original values, turn on/off spike lines, turn on/off hover information and compare hover information.
