Policy on Program Committee Development

To promote growth in the volunteer pool, provide demographic diversity, and infuse new ideas and thinking among Program Committees, the following should be considered when new members are proposed for approval:

  • At least 25% new members every year.
  • No more than 10% membership from any one company. For company-sponsored events there should not be an 25% from any one company.
  • At least 10% of committee should be young professionals (YPs) as defined by SPEI.
  • Anyone who has served 6 calendar years or longer, or for 3 event editions, on a committee, must be rotated off for at least one event cycle. For example, a committee member’s term limit on:
    • an annual conference would be for 3 calendar years.
    • a biennial (every other year) conference would be for 6 calendar years.
    • a conference which is neither annual or biennial would be for a maximum of 6 calendar years.
  • If this term limit affects more than 50% of a Program Committee, then the committee may submit a multi-year implementation plan to the Technical Content Committee (TC Committee) of the SPEI Board.

Exceptions:

Exceptions and multiyear plans will be reviewed by Staff and approved by the TC Committee chairperson.

SPE International board members may serve as Conference Program Chairs or Co-Chairs whilst serving on the SPE International Board of Directors, however they will need to recuse themselves on any votes pertaining to the event they are chairing.
