Applied Enhanced Oil Recovery with Emphasis on Gas/WAG

Disciplines: Management | Production and Operations | Projects, Facilities, and Construction | Reservoir

Course Description

Typically, an effective waterflood will recover as much oil as the primary development phase with the minimal incremental investment if waterflood was catered for during FDP. In some cases, the only way to economically develop a field is to go straight to EOR. For example, heavy California and Canadian oil often require steam EOR from the beginning to be economic.

This short class is intended for general audiences who want to be exposed to the various EOR options especially the Gas/WAG processes. Key risk and uncertainties often associated with waterflood and Gas/WAG projects and de-risking strategies will be discussed.

Learning Level

Introductory to Intermediate

Course Length

1 Day

Why Attend

Participants will get an insight into:

  • What are the options in Gas-WAG EOR?
  • Why Gas-WAG is one of the most successful commercial EOR process in the world especially for offshore applications?
  • What are the key elements in taking an EOR project from idea all the way through implementation and operations?
  • Why is Gas-WAG one of the best EOR options for the Asia Pacific region?

Who Attends

Professionals who are interested in maximising economic oil recovery fields beyond the limit of primary and waterflood depletions:

  • Asset Management
  • EOR Research and Development
  • EOR Technology
  • Field Development Planning
  • Geoscience
  • Oil and Gas Authority/Regulators
  • Production Engineering
  • Production Surveillance
  • Production Technology
  • Project Management

Instructor

Son-Huu Do Son-Huu Do has over 30 years of experience working with ARCO, Shell, Maersk Oil and 3DOs Global Energy. He served as Senior Technical Leader and Advisor, as well as various managerial and executive roles. He worked extensively in life cycle planning incorporating IOR/EOR; waterflood; and reservoir simulations for both carbonate and sandstone reservoirs. Mr. Do is a leader in technological breakthrough in IOR/EOR and 4D seismic, resulting in commercial successes. His works included three supergiants and many small oil fields with combined OOIP in excess of 100 Bln stb. Mr. Do has lived and worked in seven countries and traveled to more than 40 countries; giving him unique insight into the challenges and success associated with maximising the value of oil and gas development across the globe.
