Course Description

Overview Objectives:

  • Discussion of the history, mission and vision of the Digital Oil Field (DOF)
  • Overview of new DOF technologies
  • Demonstration of how new DOF approaches to people and organizations is helping build a more productive workforce

Infrastructure Objectives

  • Describe DOF equipment operation, detailing the surface and subsurface equipment
  • Selection process for wellsite surface systems to operate the subsurface equipment
  • Distinguish the selection of the technologies for different applications
  • Apply simple nodal analysis of subsurface equipment
  • Relate subsurface instruments to Production Engineering and Reservoir Management workflows

Field Data Capture and Data Management Objectives

  • Describe the Data Acquisition and Delivery Systems (DA&DS) end-to-end system used for DOF
  • Detail the technical principles behind DA&DS
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) engineering
  • Application Specific Control and Acquisition (ASCA) subsystems such as ESP, smart completions, etc.
  • Enterprise system (Plant Information system) and system interfaces
  • List DA&DS system components, architecture protocols, security, and theory of operation
  • Describe methods and design options to adapt technology to oil and gas operations
  • Define the network and system integration

Workflow Objectives

  • Discuss common design criteria for developing sophisticated workflows in the management of digital oil and gas fields

Reservoir, production, development and operation engineers, technologists, managers, vendors and others interested in an introduction to Digital Oil Field principles. Digital Oil Field professionals who would like to broaden their knowledge of DOF concepts, technology and options.

CEUs

0.8 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) are awarded for this 1-day course.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be received no later than 14 days prior to the course start date. Cancellations made after the 14-day window will not be refunded. Refunds will not be given due to no show situations.

Instructor

Mike Williamson is a senior reservoir engineering consultant with over 30 years of experience in both technical and managerial positions in petroleum engineering and information technology. He has proven success in digital oil field development, project management, reservoir management, reservoir simulation, flow assurance, production engineering, economic analysis, and technology consulting. Mike’s responsibilities include development, economic evaluation, management, simulation, production, and reserves analysis for onshore and offshore fields, both sandstones and carbonates. He has experience in Gulf of Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Southeastern USA, Alaska, California, Mexico, South America, China, Far East, Middle East, and Saudi Arabia with EXXON, Saudi Aramco, Chevron and other international and national oil and gas companies
