Tubing and Casing Thread Inspection
Disciplines: Drilling | Production and Operations
The course is a full day, eight hour course comprising four sections with a break for lunch. The student is given a history of gauge use, types of gauges and importance of proper gauging techniques followed by "hands on" gauging of various threads in both passing and failing condition. Students are tested for understanding and implementation of lessons and then graded to achieve passing completion of the course. Students are supplied with a Certificate of Completion, a course completion identification card and a course overview folder with reference materials for later use.
The Tubing & Casing course is based on API 5CT, 5B & 5B-1: Threading and Gauging of casing, tubing and line pipe threads. The Basic Gauge Measurement Instruction course for Tubing and Casing is designed to introduce, familiarize and teach correct gauging techniques for the proper measurement of tubing and casing threads utilizing equipment commonly found in the industry.

Connor O'Boyle has more than 5 years training individuals on proper thread inspection. Having worked for a prominent gauge manufacturer, Mr. O'Boyle has become proficient in selling, building and calibrating these individual thread element gauges. While working for the gauge manufacturer, he created and trained over 400 individuals across the U.S., South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and China. After leaving the gauge manufacturer, Mr. O'Boyle worked with the senior spec writers at API to create a new API accredited thread inspection course. API approved the two main courses for thread inspection, tubing & casing and rotary shouldered, on April 5th, 2019. He continues to develop new thread inspection courses while updating the courses as the specs change. Mr. O'Boyle is also on all committees and subcommittees for the specs covered in the courses provided by Gauge Training.
