Stuck Pipe Prevention
Disciplines: Drilling
Course Description
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the causes of stuck pipe incidents and the effective techniques to prevent them.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of drilling geology and the specific conditions that can contribute to stuck pipe situations, as well as the critical issues of hole cleaning and wellbore instability.
The curriculum will delve into three primary mechanisms responsible for stuck pipe occurrences, providing detailed analysis of the conditions that trigger each mechanism, along with their warning signs and prevention strategies.
Emphasis will be placed on accurately identifying the stuck pipe mechanism, implementing proactive measures to prevent incidents, and executing initial actions to free the drill string.
Additionally, participants will learn about the selection, installation, and operation of Drilling Jars and Accelerators as tools for effectively liberating stuck pipe.
A foundational knowledge of drilling operations, drill string components, and basic mathematical skills is recommended for all participants.

Instructor
Youssef Sallam, Well Engineering Instructor, Assessor and Facilitator, has more than 30 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, including engineering and operational experience with both operators and service companies in Middle East and Far East regions. He has a strong background in drilling engineering, drilling operations, deepwater and HPHT wells delivery. Youssef has the opportunity to drill a wide range of wells varying from HPHT deepwater wells using Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) system, extended reach wells in mature fields, to onshore low-cost and low-risk wells. He also provided Drilling Engineering competency assessment and training to oil and gas companies and support teaching the Petroleum Master Program in the American University in Cairo (AUC). He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Faculty of Engineering, University of Cairo. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
